Wilson Health Information finds Medco Health members most satisfied second year in a row, also announced as top rated mail service pharmacy. Treatment satisfaction award winners announced for twenty conditions.

NEW HOPE, PA – (PR NEWSWIRE) – September 10, 2002 – Wilson Health Information, America's leading pharmacy satisfaction research firm announced results from the 2002 WilsonRx® Survey which identified Medco Health (formerly Merck-Medco/PAID Prescriptions) as the top rated Pharmacy Benefit Management plan for the second year in a row.

The WilsonRx® Pharmacy Benefit Satisfaction Report evaluates the nation's leading pharmacy benefit management companies such as AdvancePCS, Aetna, Caremark, CIGNA/Tel-Drug, Eckerd Health Services (EHS), Express Scripts, Medco Health, NPA, Prescription Solutions, Walgreens Health Initiatives (WHI) & Wellpoint. Medco was the most popular PBM mentioned with 13% of enrolled members. Among all of the PBM issues measured, members ranked the ability to get the prescribed medication you expected and the ease and convenience of getting prescriptions filled as most important according to Jim Wilson, President of Wilson Health Information. “Other important issues included satisfaction with out of pocket costs for prescriptions, availability of network pharmacies, coverage of retail, branded and generic prescriptions. Members were most highly satisfied with Medco Health’s mail service pharmacy benefit.”

Wilson also announced a number of Treatment Satisfaction awards given to pharmacy benefit plans that achieved high levels of treatment satisfaction for twenty conditions such as Allergic Rhinitis (EHS, Wellpoint & NPA), Arthritis (Express Scripts), Bronchitis/Pneumonia (Caremark), Hypercholesterolemia (WHI), Osteoporosis (CIGNA/Tel-Drug). “Clearly, a number of health care organizations have implemented disease management programs that have helped to increase patient perceptions of care.”

“There were significant differences in treatment satisfaction ratings among customers of each type of health care provider,” commented Wilson. “We are now able to conduct follow up interviews with patients and can identify different drivers of satisfaction among conditions. For example, in a follow up study of 1,000 diabetes households we found that perceptions of doctors, educational support, testing, medications, pharmacists and insurance issues were important in convincing patients that they were receiving the best treatment. This requires close coordination of care among providers for success.”
