NEW HOPE, PA – (PR NEWSWIRE) – September 5, 2002 – Wilson Health Information, America's leading pharmacy satisfaction research firm, has named the Medicine Shoppe chain of independently owned franchise pharmacies highest rated nationally in customer satisfaction for the second year in a row. Among Chain Drug Store customers, Brooks was highest rated. Supermarket pharmacy shoppers were most satisfied with Kroger and discount pharmacy customers were most satisfied with Target. Detailed results on more than 45 pharmacy issues covering the top 20 pharmacy chains are contained in the newly released 2002 WilsonRx® Pharmacy Satisfaction Report.

Regionally, Kroger was highest rated in Atlanta. Giant Food In Baltimore and Brooks in Boston. Walgreens was top rated pharmacy in Chicago. In Cleveland, Discount Drug Mart was the highest rated. Safeway's pharmacies were top rated in Dallas, San Francisco and Washington DC. Eckerd was highest in New York and Medicine Shoppe was number one in Pittsburgh.

“Pharmacies that were highly rated also provided high levels of professional pharmacy services and patient counseling,” said Jim Wilson, President of Wilson Health Information. Eighty-five percent of Medicine Shoppe’s customers reported that they spoke with a pharmacist when they had their last new prescription filled, and they spoke with them for an average of 6.1 minutes, the highest of all the chains. “Another critical factor is the timeliness of getting prescriptions filled and Medicine Shoppe had the highest percentage of customers who reported that their last new prescription was filled in less than fifteen minutes.”

Wilson also announced Treatment Satisfaction awards given to those pharmacy chains that achieved high levels of treatment satisfaction for twenty conditions such as Allergic Rhinitis (Rite Aid & Safeway), Arthritis (Medicine Shoppe), Asthma/COPD & Diabetes (Brooks), High Cholesterol (Target) and Osteoporosis (Safeway). “Clearly, many of the leading pharmacy chains have implemented disease management programs that have helped to increase patient perceptions of care.”
