
NEW HOPE, PA – (PR NEWSWIRE) – October 31, 2001 – Wilson Health Information, LLC announced results from the 2001 WilsonRx® Survey which identified the top rated Pharmacy Benefit and Health Insurance plans throughout the United States. Healthcare Marketing executives can use the reports to measure overall levels of satisfaction and identify plan strengths and weaknesses based upon the perceptions of pharmacy customers. The WilsonRx® Survey covers more than 300 topics and the analytical reports provide insight into levels of satisfaction with more than 15 pharmacy benefit issues and 15 health insurance related issues as well as the perceptions of care for 35 specific medical conditions.
The WilsonRx® Pharmacy Survey found that the overall top rated Health Insurer was Kaiser Permanente with plans throughout the state of California, District of Columbia and Atlanta. In the Atlanta region, Kaiser was highest rated health insurance plan. Blue Cross/Blue Shield plans were the highest rated in both Boston and Chicago. And in Dallas, Aetna/US Healthcare had the highest rating. In the District of Columbia, respondents were the most highly satisfied with their health insurance when covered by the military. In the Los Angeles and San Francisco regions, Kaiser was again selected as the highest rated plan. In the New York metropolitan region, Blue Cross/Blue Shield and Oxford Healthcare were tied for the number one position.
Household respondents were most highly satisfied with the overall quality of their medical care, choice and coverage of primary care doctors, choice and coverage of hospital care, the overall ease and convenience of using the plan, overall medical treatments, diagnostic tests and services and referrals to specialists. They reported lower satisfaction scores for the prescription drug benefit, the overall cost of the plan, eye exams, vision care and dental care.
More than half of the household respondents reported that they used a pharmacy benefit management company such as AdvancePCS, Aetna US Healthcare, Caremark, CIGNA, Express Scripts/Value Rx, Merck-Medco, NPA, Prescription Solutions, & Wellpoint. The top rated overall Pharmacy Benefit Plan was Merck-Medco compared to other plans with a minimum of 250 respondents rating each plan. Although members enrolled in Kaiser's plan reported higher overall pharmacy benefit satisfaction.
The WilsonRx® Survey was conducted between May and June of 2001. It was an eight page written survey. Two versions of the survey were used that included differing orders of questions and response choices in order to improve the accuracy of responses. The survey contained a total of nineteen questions with more than 300 survey and demographic fields. The sample was selected from a nationally representative sample of household pharmacy customers and included additional samples selected from the Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, District of Columbia, Los Angeles, New York and San Francisco major metropolitan market areas.
