NEW HOPE, PA – (PR NEWSWIRE) – July 30, 2001 – Wilson Health Information, LLC today announced results from the new 2001 WilsonRx® Pharmacy Survey Reports which allow Pharmacy Executives, Pharmacy Benefit Plan Executives, Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and Healthcare Marketers to measure and analyze the differences between customers who fill new prescriptions versus those who have their prescriptions refilled. The WilsonRx® Pharmacy Survey covers more than 300 topics and the analytical reports provide insight into levels of satisfaction with more than 40 pharmacy related issues by store type and store and provide information on 40 different Pharmacy Benefit and Health Insurance Issues as well as the perceptions of care for specific conditions.

The WilsonRx® Pharmacy Survey found that women, between 40 and 70 years of age represented the eighty-seven percent (87%) of the primary household shoppers who filled prescriptions within the past year. They were most likely to have filled or refilled their prescriptions at a Chain Drug Store (45.3%), followed by a pharmacy in a Supermarket/Food Store (11.9%), independently owned pharmacy (10.8%), Mass Merchandise/Discount Pharmacy (9.0%), Mail Order/Online Pharmacy (7.0%) or other types of pharmacies such as HMO, Hospital or Government clinics. Prescription filling shoppers were significantly more satisfied when they filled and refilled their prescriptions at independently owned pharmacies as a group (Figure 2). “These results confirm again that patients who have their prescriptions filled at their local independently owned pharmacy will be the most highly satisfied, more likely to return and more likely to recommend their pharmacy to a friend or relative,” said Jim Wilson, R.Ph., MBA, President of Wilson Health Information, LLC. “The WilsonRx® Pharmacy survey is unique in that it allows us to measure levels of satisfaction with key pharmacy, pharmacy benefit, health insurance and medical treatment issues. Now we can measure how patients rate their care for more than 30 conditions such as: Arthritis, Asthma, Cancer, Osteoporosis, Symptoms of Menopause and Weight Loss treatments, and measure how satisfied they were with their pharmacy, pharmacy benefit, health insurance, physicians, hospitals and overall medical treatment.”

The Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy, a chain of independently owned and operated pharmacies operating under the Cardinal Health (NYSE:CAH) franchise, were reported to have the highest levels of overall pharmacy satisfaction by customers who filled their new prescriptions as well as those who had their prescriptions refilled. Of the Supermarket/Food Store Pharmacies, prescription filling shoppers were most highly satisfied with their Safeway Pharmacy (NYSE:SWY) to fill new prescriptions and their Kroger Pharmacy (NYSE:KR) to have their prescriptions refilled. Of the Mass/Discount pharmacy customers, Target Stores (NYSE:TGT) customers were most highly satisfied with their pharmacy to fill new prescriptions and their Kmart (NYSE:KM) pharmacy to have their prescriptions refilled.

According to Wilson, “The survey also found that when filling a new prescription, pharmacy and insurance related issues were more important for driving satisfaction than when customers are refilling prescriptions. Issues that were more important drivers of satisfaction for customers filling new prescriptions included satisfaction with the pharmacy's: knowledge about insurance coverage, acceptance of insurance without a problem, friendliness and courteousness of the pharmacists, the co-pay amount for the prescription, courteous store employees, getting clearly labeled directions, the pharmacists’ coordination of care with other health care providers, information provided about the medication, health condition and side effects, the ability to speak to a pharmacist when you have a question or concern, getting prescriptions filled accurately and with no errors in a timely manner and store employees who answer questions and solve problems. When refilling a prescription, satisfaction with overall pharmacy convenience and the amount of time required to refill prescriptions were more important predictors of pharmacy satisfaction among customers having their prescriptions refilled. Satisfaction with the ease of getting into and out of the pharmacy, the convenience of the location, the accessibility of the pharmacy and convenient store hours were more important than customers getting new prescriptions filled.”
